The Stocky Anthias is a robust and deep-bodied anthias species, known for its striking blend of pink, orange, and yellow hues. Native to the Indo-Pacific, this species thrives in groups and displays the characteristic haremic social structure, with a dominant male overseeing a group of females. Like other anthias, females have the ability to transition into males if the dominant male is lost.
Unlike some of the more delicate anthias species, the Stocky Anthias is hardier and more adaptable, making it an excellent choice for retailers looking to offer a visually stunning but relatively easy-to-care-for anthias.
Husbandry Tips:
- Acclimation: Requires a 125-gallon minimum tank for a small group, with plenty of swimming space and rock structures for shelter.
- Feeding: Carnivorous; thrives on multiple daily feedings of enriched frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and high-quality pellets. Frequent feedings are essential for long-term success.
- Tank Mates: Best kept with peaceful to semi-aggressive tank mates. Avoid highly aggressive fish that may outcompete it for food.
- Water Quality: Prefers stable, high-quality water conditions, strong flow, and high oxygenation to mimic its natural reef habitat.
Retail Appeal:
- A hardier anthias species compared to others, making it more beginner-friendly.
- Stunning coloration and schooling behavior add movement and vibrance to aquariums.
- Ideal for reef tanks and large peaceful community setups.
Stock the Stocky Anthias for customers looking for a bold, active, and social reef fish that thrives in groups with proper care and feeding.
